<\/strong><\/p>\n “I begin each painting intuitively.\u00a0 By making a few marks, I continue to add to it, as I respond to what I have just put down. I work in a process-oriented manner. At some point, the piece will give me a clear suggestion of where it wants to go, and I will follow. <\/em><\/p>\n As a painting is nearing completion, my process slows down.\u00a0 There are choices and decisions to make at this point about refining and completing it.\u00a0 Much time is now spent just looking at the piece and being with it.\u00a0 At some point, I\u2019ll see what needs to happen and will adjust a color, make a mark, or fine-tune something, if necessary.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n Owning a piece of art is a gift you can give to yourself. It\u2019s so rewarding to see the hand of the artist in a piece of original art \u2013 not to mention feeling the heart and soul of the piece. 2019 Sacagawea Artist\nIan Baker Johnson<\/h1>\nProfessional Dimensions\u2019 prestigious Sacagawea Award<\/b> was created in 1982. <\/span>Each year it is given to two exceptional trailblazing women. <\/span>These women have helped others along the way and have embraced opportunities to hone their skills and work with excellence to conquer daily challenges through career achievements.\n\nIn addition, one Wisconsin-based woman artist is chosen each year to receive the Sacagawea Artist Award. <\/span><\/b>The recipient in 2019 is multi-media artist Ian Baker Johnson<\/b>. <\/span>This award is given to an artist who consistently shows skill and originality in an art medium such as painting, sculpture, ceramics etc. Ian is a Wisconsin based painter who will create three pieces of art as part of receiving the award: one each for the 2019 Sacagawea Award winners Dr. Jeanette Mitchell and May yer Thao and one for inclusion in the Professional Dimensions permanent art collection at Alverno College.\n\nIan is best known for her colorful contemporary art. <\/span>She draws inspiration from the Wisconsin landscape as well as from the many places she has traveled throughout her life. <\/span>After receiving a BFA in studio painting, she continued to study at other <\/span>institutions and with other professional artists. <\/span>Ian currently works with acrylics on canvas as well as with oil & cold wax on paper or board.
